Arsenal plan to offer Mikel Arteta a new contract this summer, with the Gunners just waiting for the season to end to begin negotiations.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal intend to advance contract talks with Mikel Arteta this summer, having made an initial approach in March.
At the time, manager and club opted to reschedule their conversations for the end of the season, allowing everyone to focus on the final push for the Premier League and Champions League trophies.
But the Gunners want Arteta to stay and remain a key part of their project, so negotiations are set to resume at the end of the current campaign.

On his other social media pages, Romano confirms that Arteta is “in love” with the Arsenal project, and that he’s “looking forward” to the talks. The manager simply wants to focus on trophies for the time being.
The reporter also suggested that Arsenal committed to their plan to extend Arteta’s deal in March, regardless of the end-of-season results.
That wouldn’t be surprising, as Arteta has previously extended his contract at Arsenal even when there was uncertainty about the team achieving their goals.
For example, Arteta signed a new deal at the start of May in 2022, despite not having qualified for the Champions League at the time. He then extended again in September 2024, just a few games into the new season.

This time around, it looks as though Arteta won’t be formally committing until after the results of this season are known. But Arsenal are evidently pleased with how things are going, whether they reach the ideal conclusion by the end of May or not.
