Arsenal poised as Newcastle likely to sell 1-2 star players

Newcastle United are reportedly likely to sell at least one of their star players this summer, with Arsenal holding an interest in at least two members of Eddie Howe’s squad.

Sami Mokbel and Ciaran Kelly report for the BBC that if Newcastle United fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, they’ll need to sell at least one, and potentially two of their star players this summer.

Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, and Tino Livramento are all reportedly attracting interest, and the BBC claim that both Livramento and Gordon are in Arsenal’s sights.

Livramento is reportedly of long-term interest to the Gunners, as well as Manchester City, though the player’s injury problems may affect Newcastle’s ability to drum up a major fee.

Then Gordon is “rated highly” by Arsenal, with the Gunners having identified a new left-winger as a priority this summer.

According to the same report, Arsenal are interested in signing a central midfielder this summer, which may potentially put them in the mix for Tonali as well (or indeed Bruno Guimaraes). But nothing in the BBC’s article confirms that the Gunners are definitely in for the Italian international.

With that all in mind, Arsenal fans might want to keep an eye on Newcastle’s end to the season. Having been eliminated from both of the cups and the Champions League, Eddie Howe’s team will be fully focused on the league and on securing a top-five spot.

But the team currently sit 12th, seven points behind the top five with seven games to go. And Arsenal will be looking to further damage Newcastle’s chances with a win over the north-east side on April 25th.

It’s looking increasingly likely Newcastle won’t be involved in Europe’s top-tier competition in 2026/27, and that may well lead to one of their players making the switch to north London.
