Arsenal star unsure about Man City final title race claim

Piero Hincapie has rejected claims the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City will impact the title race, keeping Arsenal’s focus firmly on winning at Wembley.

Piero Hincapie has dismissed suggestions that Sunday’s Carabao Cup final between Arsenal and Manchester City will have any bearing on the Premier League title race, insisting the priority is simply to win both.

Arsenal travel to Wembley with the first domestic trophy of the season at stake and the broader conversation of an improbable quadruple.

They sit top of the league, are through to the Champions League quarter-finals with a tie against Sporting, and have an FA Cup quarter-final against Southampton still to come.

Manchester City, eliminated from Europe by Real Madrid, come into the game looking to reassert themselves domestically while stopping Arsenal’s momentum.

The fixture is a repeat of the 2018 League Cup final, won 3-0 by City, but the balance since then has shifted somewhat.

Speaking after helping eliminate Bayer Leverkusen from the Champions League, a tie he admitted was “also a bit sad because it was against my former club”, Piero Hincapie was asked whether the Wembley result would influence the title race.

“I don’t know,” he said.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game. We’re very focused on wanting to win it, but we have to work hard to win the title.

“We’re really focused on the final, which is a very important final.

“We’re going to train very hard to get to the final in the best way possible and to win the title. That’s the most important thing.”
