Injured Arsenal star still in contention to face Manchester City

Eberechi Eze is still in contention to face Manchester City next month, despite suffering an injury that will rule him out for at least the next few weeks.

Ever since Eberechi Eze’s injury against Bayer Leverkusen earlier this month, reports on his potential absence have swung from one extreme to another.

Initially, Eze himself suggested he was fine, and there were suggestions from others in the media that he could even be back immediately for Arsenal’s League Cup final against Manchester City that same weekend.

When that didn’t happen, news broke that the 27-year-old could be out for between four and six weeks, likely ruling him out until May.

Yet John Cross now reports for the Mirror that there are hopes that Eze could be back in time to face Manchester City on April 19th.

You’d think that really would be the minimum absence, given that would be four weeks to the day since the cup final when the injury news broke.

But it’s an encouraging update, given Arsenal might have some big games in the second half of April.

After the trip to the Etihad on April 19th, the Gunners will definitely have a Premier League home game against Newcastle United, but they might also have an FA Cup semi-final on April 25th and a Champions League semi-final first leg on April 29th.

If Arsenal make it to both semi-finals, having Eze for those two games and the two key Premier League clashes would be a huge boost for the team.
