Nottingham Forest make decision on Edu exit

Former Arsenal player and director Edu Gaspar is set to leave Nottingham Forest, with reports that the decision has already been made internally.

Fabrizio Romano reports that former Arsenal director Edu Gaspar is set to leave Nottingham Forest, as his relationship with the club’s owners is already broken just months after his official appointment in the summer of 2025.

Romano claims Edu will part ways with Forest “very soon”, and that Forest’s internal decision has already been made. The same source adds that “it’s over” between Edu and his current club.

Edu had initially signed a five-year deal in July 2025, but less than 12 months into that contract his spell is set to come to an end.

The probability of this outcome has been steadily rising all year, with John Percy reporting for The Telegraph in January that Edu’s job was starting to come under pressure.

Forest held doubts about the director’s long-term future with the club following his clash with Nuno Espirito Santo last year. Despite Nuno’s departure, Edu’s presence at the club remained a contentious issue behind the scenes.

Edu pushed for the signings of Douglas Luiz and former Gunner Omari Hutchinson over the summer, whilst Nuno and the recruitment team wanted other players.

Edu was also key in the loan signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal, which did not go well at all. Zinchenko didn’t even finish the season before leaving for Ajax.

Forest sit 17th in the Premier League table, only clear of the relegation zone on goal difference.

The team are at least continuing to compete in the Europa League, reaching the last-16, but focusing their attentions on a European run may well leave them struggling to stay up domestically. Forest’s domestic cup campaigns both ended at the first opportunity.

It’s been far from a good season for the club, and Edu is seemingly taking a lot of the blame for that. When results are bad on the pitch and relationships are fractured behind the scenes, an exit starts to feel inevitable.
