Former Gunner hoping for Arsenal title & Spurs relegation

Hector Bellerin has admitted he’s hoping Arsenal win the Premier League this season, suggesting he’d also like to see Spurs getting relegated.

Speaking to the Footebate Instagram page this week, former Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin answered a question about his old team’s Premier League title chances this season, and whether they might finally lift the trophy in May.

“I really hope so, it’s been a long time coming,” Bellerin said. “I think they’re doing a great job. I watch them a lot, lots of old teammates and I’m still a Gunner as well, deep inside.”

The interviewer then revealed he was a Spurs fan, and that he hopes the team don’t get relegated.

Bellerin responded with a smile: “Well, I can’t say the same.”

Bellerin is currently playing for Real Betis in La Liga, making 17 appearances in the Spanish top tier so far this season. He’s even pulled on the captain’s armband on a number of occasions, helping his team to push up into contention for European football.

Betis sit fifth in the table as it stands, though they’re quite a way off the top four, with an 11-point gap to fourth place. That may not matter though, as Spain are in a good position to secure a fifth Champions League qualification spot through their European performances this season.

One thing’s for sure, Betis are certainly a lot more likely to be playing Champions League football next season than Spurs.

La Liga concludes on the same weekend as the Premier League, so Bellerin probably won’t be able to make it back to the Emirates Stadium for many of the remaining games this season. Here’s hoping there will be a parade he can attend instead.
