Arsenal join race to sign Fulham talent this summer

Arsenal are involved in the battle to sign Fulham’s Samuel Amissah this summer, when the 19-year-old will be out of contract.

Mike McGrath reports for The Telegraph that Fulham’s Samuel Amissah is expected to leave the club this summer, with various teams in England and abroad hoping to snap him up when his contract expires.

Amissah’s transfer fee would be set by a tribunal if he joins a Premier League rival, and he could also move overseas for a smaller fee.

The likes of Ajax, Juventus, and Marseille are all interested if the player decides on the latter, but the interest from England is serious.

McGrath claims Arsenal have been watching Amissah this season, and Chelsea and Manchester United are also involved in the race. All three are poised to make a summer move.

Centre-back Amissah has also occasionally operated as a full-back during his time with Fulham’s youth teams, and he’s been sufficiently impressive to make the first-team squad seven times this season.

Many of those appearances on the bench came in a five-game run in January, though he’s dropped back out of the squad since.

That’s not unusual, with clubs often using matchday squad appearances to try and tempt young players to stay, before withdrawing those opportunities when it becomes clear the youngster plans to leave.

As well as playing his club football with Fulham, Amissah has also represented the England youth teams up to the u19s. He’s shared the pitch with Arsenal’s Jack Porter, Max Dowman, Khari Ranson, and Jaden Dixon during a few of those appearances this season.
