Arsenal youngster injured days after his senior debut

Arsenal youngster Jaden Dixon has picked up an injury just days after making his debut for the Gunners’ first team, suffering the setback in Friday’s u21 defeat to Leicester City.

Just one week ago, Arsenal youngster Jaden Dixon was on the receiving end of praise from Mikel Arteta following his senior debut for the club in the win over Mansfield Town.

But development as a young footballer is never entirely linear, and the former Stoke City defender suffered a setback during Friday night’s u21 game between Arsenal and Leicester City.

Shortly before half-time, Dixon had to be supported by Arsenal medics as he limped off the pitch with an injury, to be replaced by substitute Seb Ferdinand.

Though the nature and extent of Dixon’s injury are not yet known, it’s never a good sign when a player can’t leave the field unaided. It certainly didn’t help the mood that Arsenal were 3-1 down at the time.

The only positive from the performance had been another goal for winter Arsenal signing Evan Mooney. The former St. Mirren forward placed a shot across the goalkeeper into the far corner to give the Gunners some hope, before Dixon’s injury soured the situation two minutes later.

The u21s have been prone to crumbling this season, and that was seemingly what happened in the second half as Leicester went on to win 5-1.

Before Friday night, Dixon has made a very positive start to life with Arsenal. The u21s had only conceded two goals in his first four appearances at right-back, and he’d been rewarded with that senior debut in the FA Cup.

The 18-year-old will now be hoping he only faces a brief spell on the sidelines after a very disappointing evening at Meadow Park.
