Hamburger SV plan to hold negotiations with Arsenal over the permanent transfer of Fabio Vieira, but they don’t want to pay the €20m fee they previously agreed to.

Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira has a €20m option to buy in his Hamburger SV contract, but reports increasingly suggest the German club don’t intend to pay it.
German outlet MOPO report (via Sport Witness) that HSV haven’t had any contact with Arsenal recently, but they plan to get in touch with the Gunners in the coming weeks to negotiate a potential permanent transfer.
HSV don’t want to pay the €20m fee, but they believe Vieira has an impact for them this season, so they’d be interested in a deal if Arsenal lower the price.

According to MOPO, Arsenal would only agree to the loan move last summer if the €20m clause was included, and HSV didn’t feel they had time to work on negotiating the price down at the time. But the move doesn’t look likely to go ahead at that figure.
Other reports this week have also suggested Arsenal will hold talks with HSV before the end of the season, whilst Vieira himself has told the media he believes he can bring the team even more than he already has.
“I feel more and more confident and productive and I can offer the team more,” Vieira said this week. “I know that I can do a lot of positive things for HSV here. Fortunately, I’m getting better and better at it lately.”

Vieira now has seven goals or assists in 18 appearances for HSV, but more importantly he’s been a consistent starter in their current five-game unbeaten run.
The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes again on Saturday, as HSV beat Union Berlin 3-2 to enter the top half of the Bundesliga table. The team are still some way off any dreams of European football, but they’ve put a big gap between themselves and any threat of relegation.
