Viktor Gyokeres is closing in on another of his transfer add-on payment targets, after a brace against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.

After scoring two goals in the north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, Viktor Gyokeres is now up to 17 goal contributions for the campaign in all competitions.

That’s good news for the Gunners on the pitch, but it does mean they’re now closing in on another add-on payment to Sporting CP.

Arsenal agreed to pay Sporting €0.5m every time Gyokeres reaches 20 goal contributions, up to a limit of €1m. So after his next three goals or assists, the Gunners will have to send some money to Portugal.

Given he has 10 goal contributions in his last 12 games, racking up another three might not take very long.

Gyokeres has already activated the first of his add-on payments, with €1.25m due every 20 games that he plays 45 minutes or more, up to a limit of €5m.

That’s on top of the initial €63.5m Arsenal paid last summer, meaning the Gunners have currently paid €64.75m (£56.5m).

On top of the appearance bonus and the imminent goal contribution bonus, Arsenal also owe €1m every time they qualify for the League Phase of the Champions League (up to a limit of €4m).

If Gyokeres ends up playing for Arsenal for four more seasons, notching 40 goal contributions and 80 appearances (of 45 minutes or more) as Arsenal consistently qualify for the Champions League, the Gunners will ultimately pay €10m in add-ons.

That would bring the transfer fee to a maximum total of €73.5m, or £64.2m.
