Vivienne Lia has joined Swedish side Hammarby on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season as Arsenal continue to manage the development pathways of their young players.

The 19-year-old winger will now spend the rest of the campaign in the Damallsvenskan, having signed her first professional contract with Arsenal in January 2025.

Lia spent the first half of this season on loan at Nottingham Forest, where she made 12 appearances for the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 side, but has now been given the opportunity to gain further senior experience abroad.

“I’m coming to a top club that I know I’ll develop a lot in and also get the opportunity to gain new experiences from both the league and life abroad,” Lia said.

“As soon as Hammarby came knocking on the door, I felt very excited to come here. I only had time to meet Smilla quickly, but of course I know Kyra and she has spoken very highly of her time at the club and the supporters.”

The move follows a series of adjustments to Arsenal’s loan group.

Cecily Wellesley-Smith was recalled from Leicester earlier this season and subsequently sent to Rosengard in Sweden after a lack of playing time, while Jessie Gale was brought back from Portsmouth, where she had been featuring regularly, before being loaned to Bristol City, who are chasing automatic promotion.

Gale has already made an impact there, scoring a recent brace.

Laila Harbert had a planned half-season loan in the United States with Portland Thorns, where she continued her development, and has since moved to Everton until the end of the season, where she already has to deal with a change of manager.

Maddie Earl was also recalled from Ipswich Town following limited minutes and injury issues, while Niamh Peacock returned from Watford and has since joined Portsmouth after becoming the first player to sign an Academy Development Registration contract in WSL 2.
