Arsenal are set to hold talks over the future of Fabio Vieira before the end of the season, with discussions expected to take place in the spring as his loan spell in Germany continues.

The 25-year-old midfielder is on loan with Hamburger SV, where his form has steadily improved in recent weeks. Vieira scored a penalty in the 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich and followed that up by playing a part in both goals in a 2–0 win away at Heidenheim, underlining his growing influence.
Teammates have also reportedly noted a change off the pitch, with the Portuguese international becoming more communicative and relaxed in the dressing room.
Vieira remains under contract with Arsenal until 2027, with HSV holding a purchase option of €20 million this summer. That figure is widely seen as unlikely to be met unless his performances improve sharply in the final months of the season.

His current record stands at 15 league appearances, two goals and four assists, alongside flashes of technical quality, although there is acknowledged room for improvement in his defensive contributions.
At the Volkspark, the club’s hierarchy are understood to be monitoring his development before committing to a decision. Talks with Arsenal are expected in April or May, with all options said to be still open.
What appears more certain is that Vieira is unlikely to return to Arsenal’s squad during the final year of his contract if no permanent deal is agreed in Germany.
Much will depend on whether Eric Huwer, HSV’s board member, and sporting director Claus Costa can renegotiate the terms of any transfer and significantly reduce the fee. Hamburg’s record fee currently stands at €14m.
