Arsenal plan to return for January target this summer

Arsenal will return for Igor Tyjon again this summer, hoping to snap up the young striker when his scholarship terms at Blackburn Rovers expire.

Arsenal saw multiple bids for Blackburn Rovers youth striker Igor Tyjon turned down last summer, and they made a fresh attempt to sign the player with a £1m offer late in the January transfer window.

Once again, Rovers turned them down, meaning Tyjon will remain with his current club until the end of the season. After that, the 17-year-old’s scholarship terms will expire and he’ll be free to move for no more than a training compensation payment.

Rovers had been keen for the player to sign professional terms, but he’s consistently refused offers to do so.

Ryan Taylor reports for Football.London that Arsenal plan to revisit Tyjon’s signing in the summer, though they’ll face competition for his signature.

Serie A side Atalanta, a number of Polish top-flight clubs, Manchester United, and Aston Villa are all reportedly in the mix. Tyjon was born to Polish parents and has played for the Poland u16s, so perhaps the Polish clubs believe that connection could give them an edge.

More recently, Tyjon has represented the England u18s, so his international future remains somewhat uncertain.

The 17-year-old has notched four goals and one assist in just five Premier League 2 appearances this season, as he’s struggled for minutes in light of his stance on a new deal. Despite his young age, Tyjon has also played three times for Rovers’ senior side.

Tyjon’s most recent showing was in a 5-0 win over Birmingham City last week, and he scored Rovers’ fourth goal of the game with a headed finish.
