Do Arsenal have recall clause for Ethan Nwaneri?

Ethan Nwaneri won’t be returning to Arsenal on deadline day, with the Gunners not having a recall clause in the loan deal with Marseille.

Following Mikel Merino’s foot injury, Arsenal have been sparked into life in the transfer market, looking at potentially completing a deadline-day signing to strengthen the squad for the remainder of the season.

But some fans have suggested the Gunners should just bring back Ethan Nwaneri, who moved on loan to Marseille earlier this month. That would certainly strengthen the squad’s midfield options, with no adjustment period necessary for the Arsenal academy graduate.

Yet the fan proposal isn’t about to become a reality, with Sam Dean reporting for The Telegraph that Arsenal won’t be bringing back Nwaneri on deadline day, and that the Gunners don’t have a recall clause in his deal.

Simon Collings confirms for The S*n that whilst Arsenal are exploring the market, Nwaneri returning is not a solution, again noting the lack of a recall clause.

Nwaneri has only been on loan with Marseille for 10 days, and he’s already made two starts for the team in Ligue 1 clashes against RC Lens and Paris FC.

Unfortunately, the 18-year-old was ineligible for the Champions League match against Club Brugge last midweek, and Marseille’s 3-0 defeat ultimately eliminated them from the competition.

That’s taken a few potential fixtures off the schedule for Marseille, so Nwaneri needs to hold down that starting spot in the league.
