Arsenal have been linked with a late January move for Sandro Tonali, but the rumours have been played down by those close to Newcastle United.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky in Germany reported on Monday morning that Arsenal were exploring a deadline day move for Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, though he added that it would be very difficult at this stage and that the north-east club have already rejected an initial approach.
Arsenal are certainly believed to be scouring the market for a late signing following an injury to Mikel Merino, with a midfielder the most likely replacement.
But with so little time left in the window, it would be a surprise if anything came of their interest.

Newcastle sources go further than suggesting the Tonali move is just difficult, with most claiming it’s not even on the cards.
Lee Ryder of ChronicleLive reports that Newcastle have dismissed any suggestions of an Arsenal move for Tonali, claiming there’s been no contact whatsoever.
Luke Edwards of The Telegraph adds that Newcastle sources have described the stories as “stupid” and “complete rubbish”.
Then Alex Crook of talkSPORT also claims the links are “wide of the mark”, with no credible sources backing up the initial report so far.

From the sounds of things, Sky have just got their wires crossed somewhere, and Arsenal won’t be making a shock late move for Newcastle’s 2023 £55m signing.
