The EFL have confirmed the WhoScored Team of the Round for the League Cup semi-finals, with Arsenal’s Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Piero Hincapie, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Ben White all featuring in the team.

Hincapie was selected for his second-leg performance, having not featured in the first. The Ecuador international locked down Liam Delap and Estevao, winning eight of his 10 individual duels to help his team to a clean sheet.

By contrast, White obviously made it in for his performance in the first leg, scoring and making five defensive contributions in Arsenal’s 3-2 victory at Stamford Bridge, but sitting on the bench at the Emirates.

Zubimendi was another one who was at his best away from home, netting a well-taken goal to put the Gunners in a commanding position at that stage. But the Spaniard also played the full 90 minutes to help Arsenal finish the job in the second leg.

Rice had an impact home and away, assisting the opening goal in both games. The midfielder created five chances including three big chances across the two matches, on top of all his usual good work out of possession.

As for Gabriel, the centre-back missed a good chance to score at Stamford Bridge, but his defensive work was excellent, and he was even more dominant in the second leg.

The one Chelsea player to make it into the team was Alejandro Garnacho, for understandable reasons after he scored a first-leg brace. It was arguably only Garnacho’s goals and one excellent Robert Sanchez save from Mikel Merino that kept the tie alive ahead of the Emirates Stadium fixture.

The remainder of the team was composed of Manchester City players, with no Newcastle United entrants after they were thrashed 5-1 on aggregate.
