Arsenal confirmed the signing of Evan Mooney from St. Mirren ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline, with his former club revealing details of the eventual deal.

Arsenal announced the signing of Evan Mooney on Monday night, confirming that the 18-year-old forward will be joining his new club’s academy after leaving St. Mirren.
The Gunners gave limited details about the transfer agreement, as you’d expect, but St. Mirren revealed a little more in their own post about the move.
St. Mirren wrote that while the terms of the deal are confidential, they’ve secured “a substantial fee with potential for significant future add-ons and a sizeable sell-on clause”.

Various reports have put the initial fee at around £400,000, which St. Mirren will feel is a victory given Arsenal reportedly began talks at around £265,000.
The Gunners were then offering another £400,000 in add-ons, potentially bringing the total deal to over £800,000, plus that sell-on clause that St. Mirren have officially confirmed.
Mooney had made 23 appearances for St. Mirren’s senior side, though none of them were starts. He had a goal and an assist in those senior appearances, scoring against St. Johnstone and setting up a winning goal against Rangers.
The teenager even made an appearance as a substitute in the Scottish League Cup final win over Celtic in December.

The Arsenal academy have been very clearly on the hunt for a youth striker for a while now, pursuing various players including Will Wright (who joined Liverpool) and Igor Tyjon (who remains a Blackburn Rovers player with a contract expiring this summer).
With Mooney joining capable of playing at centre-forward or on the right wing, the academy finally have someone to fill that role in the squad.
