Celebrity actress Anne Hathaway doesn’t hide her support for Arsenal on Instagram, sharing pictures wearing the Gunners’ shirts and regularly referencing the team’s results in an ongoing series of posts she’s dubbed “The Things”.

“The Things” is basically Hathaway’s roundup of stuff she’s enjoyed that week, or things that have stood out to her.

Arsenal often make the list, for example after the 2-0 win over West Ham in October she posted “Arsenal 2-0; Rice 38′, Saka 67′ afterglow”. And in December she named Gabriel Jesus’ letter to the Arsenal family as “a must read”.

But Hathaway had a slightly more light-hearted take on Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday, writing: “As if Leeds hadn’t already suffered enough from my “accent” in One Day… #coyg”

Hathaway was referencing her 2011 appearance in the film One Day, in which she played a character from a working-class family in Leeds.

The problem was that Hathaway’s attempt at a Yorkshire accent didn’t go down well, with critics and the general public not particularly impressed with the results.

Unfortunately for Leeds locals, Arsenal have indeed made life miserable for them this season, thrashing the Elland Road side 5-0 and 4-0 in their two Premier League encounters.

Leeds will take some comfort that the only way they can face Arsenal again in 2025/26 would be in some latter stage of the FA Cup. In the Premier League, the Gunners have done all the damage they can.
