Arsenal likely to delay Blackburn Rovers signing until summer

Arsenal are unlikely to sign Igor Tyjon this month, but a deal is still possible this summer when the Blackburn Rovers youth striker’s current contract expires.

Jeorge Bird of Arsenal Youth and RoversXtra report that Arsenal are unlikely to sign Igor Tyjon in the January transfer window, but a deal is still possible when the youth striker’s Blackburn Rovers deal expires in the summer.

The Gunners will face competition at that stage, with Aston Villa also reportedly interested in a move.

RoversXtra previously reported that no formal offers had been made for Tyjon in January, with Rovers’ valuation above what interested clubs are willing to pay.

James McNicholas had reported for The Athletic that Tyjon remains of interest to the Gunners, adding that the forward could potentially move in January after turning down a professional contract with his current club.

Simon Collings also reported that after Arsenal had multiple seven-figure bids for Tyjon turned down last summer, Rovers were reluctantly accepting that the player would leave, and Arsenal still wanted to sign him.

But with Tyjon refusing to extend his contract, the pressure is on Rovers to facilitate a January sale, as Arsenal can simply wait to pick him up for little more than a training compensation fee later this year.

The 17-year-old has notched four goals and one assist in just five Premier League 2 appearances this season, as he’s struggled for minutes in light of his stance on a new deal.

Tyjon’s most recent showing was in a 5-0 win over Birmingham City on Monday, and he scored Rovers’ fourth goal of the game with a headed finish.
