Rodri has vowed that Manchester City will fight until the end, despite falling seven points behind Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s match away to Manchester United, City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders had told the media they were “pretty confident of catching Arsenal, to be honest”.
Reijnders added: “Games like this are massive. If you win them, confidence grows and momentum can change very quickly.”
Yet City lost the match 2-0, arguably a closer scoreline than they deserved given Gianluigi Donnarumma’s strong goalkeeping performance and United’s three disallowed goals.
Far from conceding that the title race is over, Rodri insisted afterwards that City will move on from their latest setback and continue to fight until the season is done.
“Football is like this. You lose, you learn from the past and you move on,” Rodri said.
“We dropped many points in the last games but still we are second or third. We are going to fight until the end.”
There’s certainly the potential for things to swing back in City’s favour this week. Whilst Pep Guardiola’s side face Wolves at home, Arsenal will have to beat the team that just battered their title rivals in Manchester United.
City also have the kinder buildup to the weekend, playing Bodo/Glimt on Tuesday whilst Arsenal face Inter Milan.
City have tough games of their own coming up, including trips away to big-six rivals Spurs and Liverpool in their next three league fixtures. But seven points is certainly not enough to rule out a swift change of fortunes for the two teams at the top.
