Former Gunner Eddie Nketiah was in line for a move to struggling Premier League side West Ham United ahead of the January transfer window, but an untimely injury means the deal will no longer go ahead.

Alex Crook reports for talkSPORT that West Ham were lining up a January move for Nketiah, but a hamstring injury has scuppered the chances of such a transfer.

Alan Nixon reports on his Patreon that the hamstring injury will keep Nketiah out for around six weeks, meaning a return around February 12th. That would rule the striker out of their next seven games, as well as the two he’s already missed since the turn of the year.

The West Ham move for Nketiah certainly appears to be dead, with the Hammers agreeing to sign Pablo from Gil Vicente and Taty Castellanos from Lazio as their centre-forward acquisitions instead.

To make matters even worse, Crystal Palace have signed Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur and are interested in Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen as well.

Nketiah may return after the conclusion of the January window to find he has two new attacking signings to compete with for starts.

Nketiah’s 2025/26 season so far has been ravaged by injuries, with this latest hamstring setback his third muscle injury of the campaign.

As a result, the 26-year-old has played 19 times in all competitions, including just five starts. With that in mind, his record of four goals and one assist really isn’t that bad.

But this latest injury setback could make it difficult for the ex-Arsenal academy player to have a significant impact in the remainder of the season.
