Bayern contact Arsenal & Manchester City transfer target

Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl has made fresh contact with Marc Guehi’s camp as he looks to convince the player to wait until summer for a transfer.

Florian Plettenberg and Patrick Berger report for Sky Sport Germany that Bayern Munich director of sport Max Eberl has made new phone calls over a potential move for Marc Guehi, trying to convince the player to join the Bundesliga club as a free agent this summer.

Eberl already held a meeting with Guehi’s agent a few weeks ago, and Bayern remain in the race despite reports that Manchester City want to sign the defender this month.

David Ornstein also reported for The Athletic last week that Arsenal retain a long-standing interest in Guehi, most likely as a potential summer signing. The club have reportedly discussed pursuing the transfer and are in contract with the player’s representatives.

Guehi’s contract at Crystal Palace expires at the end of the season, so he’ll be available on a free transfer at that stage. But that’s only if no one signs him sooner.

Ornstein has previously mentioned an amicable understanding between Palace and Guehi that he would see out the final months of his deal.

But City are set to test that stance following a double injury setback to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.

Bayern’s pursuit is bad news for Arsenal’s hopes of signing Guehi this summer, but perhaps it’s good news for the Gunners in the Premier League title race.

The more options Guehi has on the table for this summer, the less likely he is to push for an immediate transfer, potentially denying Manchester City the chance to strengthen at the back.
