Arsenal clause could trigger with deal practically done

Nuno Tavares appears to be in line to join Cesc Fabregas at Como 1907, with Arsenal able to profit through a sell-on clause in the defender’s contract.

Former Gunner Nuno Tavares has been linked with a move away from current club Lazio for a while now, with Besiktas appearing to lead the race for his signature earlier this month.

Yet Damiano Er Faina (via The Laziali) reports that Tavares isn’t convinced by the Besiktas option, despite Lazio reaching an agreement with the Turkish side. Tavares would instead prefer to join fellow Serie A side Como 1907 to play under Cesc Fabregas.

Eduardo Burgos Rodriguez adds for Spanish outlet AS that Lazio have already lined up Rodrigo Mendoza as a replacement, and they plan to make a bid once Tavares is sold. The report suggests Tavares is already “practically a Como signing” at this point.

Arsenal have a sell-on clause in Tavares’ contract, so they’d receive some of the proceeds if Lazio do reach an agreement with Como.

The percentage figure for Tavares has been reported as being as low as 25% or as high as 40%, depending on the source. Ryan Taylor recently reported for Football.London that whilst initial suggestions put it at 25%, Italian sources have since claimed it’s as much as 35%.

The reality is presumably somewhere within that 25-40% range, and Lazio now just need to reach an agreement so the clause can come into effect.

Tavares has played 10 times for Lazio this season, beginning the campaign in the starting lineup but losing his place after a month-long injury between October and November.

The 25-year-old has only made three appearances since his recovery, despite featuring in the squad 11 times. He’s been an unused substitute in Lazio’s last seven matches, and a sale seems like the best thing for him at this point.
