Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira was denied a fourth goal contribution in four games by a marginal offside with Hamburger SV over the weekend.

Despite scoring or assisting in each of his previous three Bundesliga appearances, Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira found himself on the bench for last weekend’s match for Hamburger SV against Eintract Frankfurt.
With 20 minutes to go, Vieira was introduced with the scores level at 1-1. Former Gunner Albert Sambi Lokonga had scored HSV’s only goal, his fourth of the campaign, but the hosts needed a winner.
10 minutes later, Vieira thought he’d provided it. The Arsenal 25-year-old raced around the outside of the wide defender, received a through ball with one touch to control, then curled a finish into the far corner.

To the naked eye, it looked like a legitimate goal, and the assistant referee certainly thought as much as he kept his flag down. But under more intense scrutiny by VAR, Vieira was found to be offside by the smallest of margins.
It was unfortunate for Vieira and HSV, as it was a nice move and a great touch and finish. But the team ultimately had to settle for a draw.

As well as his goal and two assists in his last four Bundesliga appearances, Vieira also did well in his only non-league appearance during that period.
Playing against Holstein Kiel in the German Cup, Vieira converted a penalty in the shootout and was named in the Team of the Week for his display. It’s been a strong run of form for him, and it’s just a shame it wasn’t capped with another winning goal.
