Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show on Thursday night.
The BBC have confirmed that Thierry Henry will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award at BBC Sports’ Personality of the Year show on Thursday.
“Football has given me everything and I gave it my all,” Henry said in response to the recognition.
“To be recognised as part of its history with this Lifetime Achievement award and to have made my mark for the fans and my team-mates is something I’ll never take for granted.”
The BBC highlight that Sir Mark Cavendish won the same award in 2024, and other winners include Billie Jean King, Pele, Sir Bobby Charlton, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Sir David Beckham, Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill and Sir Chris Hoy.
Henry is a worthy winner, having picked up 18 trophies in senior football whilst scoring hundreds of goals along the way.
The striker is of course best known for his spell with Arsenal, winning multiple Premier League titles, FA Cup trophies, and Community Shields, becoming the club’s record goalscorer, and ultimately ending up with a statue outside the stadium.
Since retiring from his playing career, Henry has gone on to become an entertaining and charismatic pundit, offering insights into what it takes to be the best in the game he used to play.
So there’s little doubt he fits the “personality” element of the awards show, on top of all he’s achieved in football. Congratulations to the former Arsenal star!
