Viktor Gyokeres has been named Sweden’s Forward of the Year for a third consecutive season.
The award, presented by the Swedish FA (SvFF), is given specifically to the country’s best attacking player.
In the 2025 vote, Gyokeres finished ahead of Liverpool striker Isak and Celtic winger Benjamin Nygren, underlining his continued status as Sweden’s top centre forward.
Isak was named Sweden’s overall Men’s Player of the Year after winning the Guldbollen, taking the title from Gyokeres who won it in 2024, but for the striker specific category the FF again selected Gyokeres.
The SvFF cited his goals, physical presence and decisive performances across the calendar year, with reference to his prolific spell at Sporting before his move to Arsenal.
Gyokeres scored 56 goals in all competitions during the year, including 39 in Liga Portugal, finishing as the division’s top scorer.
In its announcement, the SvFF said: “After a powerful spring at Sporting Lisbon, where Viktor Gyokeres poured in goals and established himself as one of Europe’s hottest strikers, a big summer transfer followed and an autumn with adaptation to Arsenal and a new level.
“Almost always mechanically reliable, with a volcanic primal power that makes him both difficult to stop and impossible to ignore.”
Gyokeres described the award as the culmination of a demanding year split between success in Portugal and adjustment to life in the Premier League.
“It has been an eventful year,” he said. “We won both the league and the cup with Sporting, and it was incredible to be part of and write history there. Then to make the move to Arsenal and be in the environment here and play is fantastic. I am incredibly proud and happy about the award. I take a lot of positives with me from 2025.”
Ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Everton, Mikel Arteta was asked about the scrutiny Gyokeres has faced since his arrival. The Arsenal manager said: “I think the level of attention on him hasn’t changed since he signed to today. That’s normal. Everybody was so excited to bring a No. 9 into the club.
“We brought a player with an incredible scoring record that had to adapt to the league. He had no pre-season. The first few weeks were difficult because physically he wasn’t in his best state and he’s a player that needs that. Then he kicked on.
“I think he had a really good period and he got injured, and now he’s back. But I saw a lot of positive things in the last two games that he’s done. We need to continue to tweak and understand him a little bit better in certain situations and he needs to do the same. But that’s about time and we have full support for him.”
