Liverpool star to miss Arsenal clash with suspected broken leg

Alexander Isak suffered a suspected broken leg during Saturday’s win over Tottenham Hotspur, which would rule him out of Liverpool’s upcoming game against Arsenal.

Alexander Isak scored in Liverpool’s win over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, but immediately after getting his shot off he was the victim of a crunching challenge from Micky van de Ven.

Having only come on as a substitute in the first place, Isak was taken back off with the assistance of Liverpool’s medical team, leading to fears of a serious injury.

David Ornstein has since reported for The Athletic that Liverpool fear Isak has sustained a broken leg. Though the extent of the injury is still to be determined, such an injury usually results in at least a few months out.

Given Liverpool visit Arsenal in just two-and-a-half weeks, there’s effectively no chance Isak will be available for the game. We’ll know for sure once Liverpool confirm the injury, which Ornstein reports they intend to do once MRI scan results arrive.

Although it’s fair to point out that Isak likely wouldn’t have started against Arsenal anyway. The striker has just three goals and 10 starts for Liverpool, whilst his alternative Hugo Ekitike has 11 goals and 17 starts.

Ekitike is in excellent form, scoring the other goal in Liverpool’s win over Spurs to make it five in three games.

Yet Liverpool will obviously suffer for Isak’s absence, particularly with Mohamed Salah at AFCON and Cody Gakpo also currently a doubt for the Arsenal game.

Arne Slot will struggle to give Ekitike rests over the next few weeks, and Arsenal’s defence will want to take advantage of any lethargy in the Liverpool front line.
