Trossard injury latest ahead of Chelsea-Arsenal clash

Mikel Arteta has admitted Leandro Trossard “felt something” before coming off, with the in-form winger now a doubt to face Chelsea on Sunday.

Leandro Trossard has been one of Arsenal’s most in-form players this season, racking up 10 goals and assists in his first 16 appearances of the campaign.

Two of those goal contributions came in the weekend win over Tottenham Hotspur, so the Gunners would have hoped to have the Belgian international fit for another big Premier League clash away to Chelsea on Sunday.

But Trossard was forced off in the midweek match against Bayern Munich in the 38th minute, and Mikel Arteta has admitted the player felt something.

“With Leo we don’t know (how serious it is). He said he felt something,” Arteta told his post-match press conference. “We didn’t want to take any risks.”

Arsenal may now have to rely on recent injury returners Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli against Chelsea, though the upside is that both players scored after coming off the bench in the Bayern match.

There was also bad injury news coming out of the academy on Wednesday, with Andre Harriman-Annous forced to withdraw from the u19 match against Bayern due to a setback.

Harriman-Annous has filled in up front on a couple of occasions for Arteta’s team recently, but given his injury, the pressure remains on Mikel Merino to keep starting until Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus get fit.

All three were in attendance for Arsenal’s game against Bayern on Wednesday night, but precisely when they’ll be involved on the pitch again is unclear.
