Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is continuing to train with the Arsenal u21s as he searches for a new club, joining Tuesday’s session with the young Gunners.
During Arsenal’s open training session in front of the media on Tuesday, former Gunners winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was spotted taking part in training with the youth team also present at London Colney.
It’s the second time Oxlade-Chamberlain has been seen training with the Arsenal u21s, having also been spotted during a session before the previous Champions League game against Slavia Praha.
The 32-year-old may even have been involved more often than that, considering most of Arsenal’s training sessions aren’t open to the public. If he’s been training with the team on other occasions over the last few weeks, it may not have made it to the media.
After Oxlade-Chamberlain’s previously reported training session earlier this month, Dharmesh Sheth reported for Sky Sports that he’s there to keep his fitness up given his status as a free agent.
Mikel Arteta then confirmed the same, saying: “If we can help him and give him the space for him to get up to speed and have the capacity to find a club.
“It’s a joy, the boys will learn from it. I had the privilege to play with him and if he is around he will be a really good role model to have around the team.”
The winger/midfielder was most recently on the books with Besiktas, but he terminated his contract in August, freeing him up to join a new club even after the transfer window closed.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has confirmed in media interviews that he’s had offers from around Europe, but he wants to stay in England at this point, with his wife and son in the country and another child on the way.
Birmingham City were one of the clubs reportedly interested over the summer, but the move never came to fruition. Perhaps another will make a move soon.
