Arsenal loanee Maldini Kacurri has been announced as Morecambe FC’s Player of the Month winner for October, after receiving 70% of the votes over the last week.

Morecambe had included Kacurri on a four-man shortlist, praising him as a “commanding presence at the back”, adding that the defender has “continued to impress with his composure, defensive awareness and maturity beyond his years”.

The nomination added that Kacurri’s “consistency in the heart of defence [has] been key in several strong team performances”.

Kacurri wasn’t the only Hale End academy graduate to be involved in the vote, with Miguel Azeez also nominated. The duo were joined by Jake Cain and Joe Nuttall to complete the shortlist.

Kacurri played seven times for Morecambe in October, five times in the National League and twice in FA Cup qualifiers.

The 20-year-old’s best performance was against Boston United, with Morecambe keeping a clean sheet at one end and Kacurri assisting one of the goals at the other.

Morecambe are next in action on Saturday, November 8th at 15:00 GMT against Sutton United, as they look to lift themselves off the bottom of the National League table.

Given Sutton are only above Morecambe on goal difference, the game will be viewed as an opportunity to leapfrog their opponents out of the relegation zone.
