Piero Hincapie has started to get settled in with Arsenal after a difficult early period with an injury setback, making his first start in the League Cup last week and his first in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media after that Arsenal Champions League debut, Hincapie said the Gunners aren’t just trying to win that competition, but every competition they’re involved in.

“We have a great team, we dream about winning everything and we’re working for it,” Hincapie told TNT Sports Mexico.

“We try to do our best in training so we can show it in the best way possible in matches.

“Obviously we have great players, we have great competition within the club, which is the most important thing, having competition, healthy competition that can improve your level so the team can put on a show for the fans, obviously.”

As well as Arsenal, Hincapie also plays for Ecuador, and he’ll be back in the Ecuador squad for the November break after missing the October internationals through injury.

Ecuador have already qualified for next summer’s World Cup, so the target now is to ensure they’re in the best position to be competitive at the tournament.

Hincapie agrees that’s on his mind, but he’s primarily focusing on Arsenal right now.

“Yes, obviously I want to be in good shape, I want to arrive in good shape for the World Cup,” Hincapie admitted. “But first things first, I’m at my club working as hard as I can, getting playing time so I can arrive at the World Cup in top form, which is also a dream, but first things first.”

At least for the next week or so, Hincapie is free to turn his attentions back to Ecuador, with the country facing Canada in a friendly match on Friday, November 14th at 00:30 GMT and New Zealand on November 19th at 01:30 GMT.
