Arsenal plan international break friendly to help injured forwards

Arsenal plan to schedule a game for Gabriel Jesus over the international break, with most of the club’s other injured players hoping to return to action imminently.

John Cross reports for the Mirror that Arsenal are looking to schedule a game for Gabriel Jesus during the international break, following the striker’s return to full training.

The forward has reportedly made great strides in his recovery in recent weeks, and he’s determined to get back into first-team action as quickly as possible.

But after 10 months out of action with an ACL injury, Arsenal will want to ease the player back, hence the desire to get him involved in friendly matches before he takes on any competitive football.

In other injury updates, Cross reports that Viktor Gyokeres is expected to be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur in Arsenal’s next game, and Noni Madueke is also confident of being ready.

Those two appear to be the most likely to return, but Cross also suggests that Gabriel Martinelli is close to being back, and Martin Odegaard is hoping to return as well.

That leaves Kai Havertz, who reportedly expects to be back “within the next month”. That sounds slightly less optimistic than the other four for the Spurs game, which is now just 12 days away.

If Arsenal can get all six players fit over the next month or so, it would put the squad in a very strong position ahead of the second half of the season. But that depends on the team avoiding any further injury setbacks, which has seemed to be an impossible task so far this campaign.
