Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer to Arsenal has been confirmed as one of the bargains of the summer, after Sporting CP published the precise figures in their latest financial statement.

Although earlier reports suggested a £62 million fee plus add-ons, Sporting’s records show the actual sum was €65.76 million (£57.91m), with a further €10.26 million (£9.04m) in performance-related bonuses.

Should all clauses be met, the total value of the deal will reach €76 million (£66.95m).

The Swedish striker joined Arsenal in the summer after a prolific season in Portugal, where he scored 43 goals in all competitions.

He has already found the net six times for Mikel Arteta’s side, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in attack before being sidelined by a muscular injury picked up during the win at Burnley this weekend.

The transfer also marks a landmark moment for Swedish football. Under FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, one per cent of the total fee will be distributed to IFK Aspudden-Tellus, where Gyokeres began his career.

That equates to around SEK 8 million (£585,000), a windfall that could transform the small Stockholm club’s finances.

“Money comes back to the grassroots. It has great value, it is very important,” said former Arsenal midfielder and now Swedish FA director Kim Källström, who praised the move as proof that Sweden’s player development continues to produce elite talent.

Brommapojkarna, another of Gyokeres’ former clubs and one of the most prolific academies in Scandinavia, will also benefit financially.
