The Premier League have confirmed their nominees for the Player of the Month award for September, with Arsenal summer signing Martin Zubimendi and former Gunner Granit Xhaka (now of Sunderland) both featuring on the shortlist.

Zubimendi and Xhaka are joined by Erling Haaland of Manchester City, Daichi Kamada of Crystal Palace, Yankuba Minteh of Brighton and Hove Albion, and Robin Roefs of Sunderland.

Zubimendi’s brace against Nottingham Forest was obviously the primary reason for his nomination, with a stunning volley and an unexpected headed goal propelling Arsenal to victory that day.

But the midfielder also performed well in tough matches against Manchester City and Newcastle United, with Arsenal drawing the former clash and winning the latter.

Zubimendi’s two goals for the month could only be beaten by Haaland, who is surely one of the favourites for the award. With five goals and one assist, Haaland showed some of his best form in September.
