Two Arsenal players feature in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Month for September, as the Gunners close the gap to leaders Liverpool.

WhoScored have confirmed their Premier League Team of the Month for September, with Arsenal defenders Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber making the side.
The stats website gave Gabriel a 7.60 average rating for the month, with only Sunderland’s Omar Alderete (7.63) scoring higher among Premier League defenders in September.
Timber also made it in at right-back with an average rating of 7.22.

It’s no surprise two of Arsenal’s defenders were selected, with the Gunners having another strong month at the back.
The team kept a clean sheet against Nottingham Forest, and only conceded once to Manchester City and Newcastle United.
In the Newcastle game, Gabriel made up for the one Arsenal let in by rising highest to head in the Gunners’ winning goal late in the game. Timber also put in one of his best performances that day.

Though WhoScored’s team only counts Premier League performances, Arsenal’s defenders would only have benefitted from extending the assessment to all competitions.
The Gunners kept clean sheets against Athletic Club and Port Vale in their other two matches in September.
Arsenal continue to field one of the strongest back fours in world football, and these Team of the Month inclusions are just further recognition of that.
