Sami Mokbel reports for the BBC that Arsenal have opened talks over Jurrien Timber’s contract, with the right-back’s current deal set to expire in 2028.

Talks are at an early stage, but Mokbel adds that all parties are hopeful of a positive resolution. Arsenal want to reward Timber for his strong recent performances, and it seems he’s open to extending.

The same report adds that Arsenal are hopeful of agreeing a new deal for Bukayo Saka’s camp soon, with William Saliba already having committed his future recently.

After signing for Arsenal in 2023, Timber had a less than ideal start to life with his new club due to suffering a serious ACL injury.

The defender spent most of the 2023/24 campaign out injured, but he’s made himself a regular starter since then, and he’s now Mikel Arteta’s first choice despite having a strong competitor for his position in Ben White.

Having scored two and assisted one goal in an impressive performance against Leeds United in August, Timber has continued to shine throughout September.

The defender was selected by WhoScored for their Premier League Team of the Month in September, so he’s certainly making an impression right now.

Arsenal will want to get a new deal sorted as soon as possible, so Timber can fully focus on his football.
