Palmeiras president Leila Pereira has publicly stated that she believes Arsenal Gabriel Jesus is ‘coming back home’ to join her club soon.

Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus is currently working on his return from injury, with the nearest transfer window still more than 2 months away, but Palmeiras president Leila Pereira has stoked the transfer rumours by suggesting the player will be returning to Brazil before long.

Speaking in an interview this week, Pereira didn’t hide the fact that she wants the striker to rejoin Palmeiras after more than 8 years in England.

“Of course Gabriel Jesus,” Pereira said. “And I’ll say more. Soon you’re coming back home, Gabriel! One day you’ll return!”

Isaan Khan recently reported for the Daily Mail that Arsenal are understood to be open to offers for Jesus in the upcoming January transfer window, with the player’s contract entering its final year and a half at that stage.

As mentioned, Jesus is currently sidelined with an ACL injury, but Khan reported that the striker is edging towards full fitness for the New Year.

Arsenal are currently quite reliant on Viktor Gyokeres right now, but by the time Jesus returns, Kai Havertz should also be fit. So there’s certainly an argument that the Brazilian starts to look like less of a key figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Jesus was in excellent form before his injury, scoring six goals in six games leading up to his FA Cup start against Manchester United. But after a year out of action, it’s hard to say what kind of impact he’ll be able to have with Arsenal.

Palmeiras are clearly keen to re-sign the centre-forward, the question is whether they’ll be willing to pay what it takes to convince Arsenal to part ways in the winter window.
