The Republic of Ireland national team social media channels confirmed their u17 squad for the upcoming u17 World Cup this week, with future Arsenal player Victor Ozhianvuna named on the squad list.

Arsenal officially confirmed Ozhianvuna’s transfer from Shamrock Rovers earlier this month, but added that the move won’t actually take place until January 2027.

Given Ozhianvuna is just 16 years old and an EU citizen, he’s ineligible to officially join up with Arsenal until he’s 18, a little over a year from now. In the meantime, he’ll continue to play his club football for Shamrock Rovers.

Internationally, Ozhianvuna has already been called up by the Ireland u18s on a number of occasions, playing five times for the side between June and September.

But it’s understandable that he’s dropping back down to the u17s for a major tournament like the World Cup.

Ireland kick off their tournament against Panama on November 5th, also facing Uzbekistan on November 8th and Paraguay on November 11th to complete the group stage.

Should the team continue to progress beyond that phase of competition, there’s a knockout bracket starting with a round of 32 on November 14th and ending with the final on November 27th.

Arsenal are also sending Jack Porter to the tournament with England, but Max Dowman will remain with the England u19s in November despite being age-eligible.
