Arsenal loanee assists late winner from corner

Arsenal loanee Jakub Kiwior did his best impression of Gabriel Magalhaes by assisting FC Porto’s winner from a corner against Moreirense on Monday night.

Arsenal loanee Jakub Kiwior made a fantastic start to the 2025/26 campaign with FC Porto, helping them to six clean sheets in his first six appearances for the club.

That run came to an end against Nottingham Forest last week, with the team slipping to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Sean Dyche’s side, and things went from bad to worse as Porto conceded first against Moreirense on Monday.

The opening goal certainly had an element of fortune about it, with the shot deflecting off Jan Bednarek’s boot and looping over the goalkeeper. But it gave Porto everything to do to maintain their position at the top of the Liga Portugal.

Samu Aghehowa brought Porto level just before the half-time interval, converting a stoppage-time penalty for 1-1. But as the game wore on, the chances of a winner grew increasingly slim.

Then Kiwior popped up in the 88th minute, helping on a corner for Deniz Gul to head home at the back post. The goal was reminiscent of Arsenal’s against Fulham a week earlier, with Gabriel Magalhaes heading on for Leandro Trossard to finish.

The match finished 2-1, so whilst Kiwior didn’t add to his clean sheet tally this time around, he helped to ensure his team took all three points all the same.

Porto sit top of the Liga Portugal with 25 points from nine games, winning eight and drawing one. They’re three points ahead of last year’s champions Sporting CP.

The team also have a big goal difference of +19, though they’re only one goal ahead of Sporting in that regard. Sporting have scored a couple more goals so far, but it’s Porto’s defensive record of just two conceded that has them top.
