Bukayo Saka was widely praised for his Player of the Match performance against Fulham, but the winger joked afterwards that his early corners were ‘rubbish’.

Bukayo Saka put in an excellent performance for Arsenal on Saturday, causing Fulham all sorts of problems at Craven Cottage.
By full time, Saka had completed six dribbles, created seven chances, and won five free-kicks, curling in the corner for Arsenal’s winning goal and earning the Player of the Match award.
Yet he admitted to Sky Sports after the game that his earlier set-pieces were “rubbish”.

“You know, at the start of the game I took some rubbish corners, so I was quite disappointed,” Saka said. “But I kept going, I think this (for the goal) was the fourth one. I put it in and it was a nice delivery, Gabriel got the touch and obviously Leo got the goal so I’m very happy with that.”
“Why do you think you were taking rubbish corners?” the Sky Sports presenter responded.
“Did you not see them?” Saka quipped back.

It’s true that Saka’s first couple of corners weren’t nearly as effective as the one that eventually led to the goal, but his excellent work in possession in open play kept getting Arsenal in position to win more set-pieces.
It was always likely Saka would eventually get one right, and that’s all the team needed on the day. The fact the Arsenal man never let his head drop is typical of him.
