West Ham United have sacked Graham Potter and appointed Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach, with the new manager to face Arsenal next week.
West Ham United have confirmed the departure of Graham Potter and subsequent appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as their new head coach, with Nuno signing a three-year contract at his new club.
The new head coach’s first game in charge will be away to Everton on Monday evening, giving him one warm-up match before the team travel away to Arsenal on the Saturday.
Nuno only recently left his previous club Nottingham Forest, with the club sacking him just days before their game against Arsenal. Ange Postecoglou took charge of that match instead, losing 3-0.
The 51-year-old Portuguese manager will now have the chance to face the Gunners with his new club instead.
“I am very pleased to be here and very proud to be representing West Ham United,” Nuno said.
“My objective is to work hard to get the very best from the team and ensure that we are as competitive as we possibly can be. The work has already started and I am looking forward to the challenge that is ahead.”
West Ham have had a terrible start to the season, winning one and losing four of their first five Premier League fixtures. The Hammers sit 19th in the table, only ahead of Wolves, the team that recently knocked them out of the League Cup.
If Potter had remained in charge, Arsenal fans would have been expecting a walkover in next Saturday’s fixture. But West Ham supporters will now be hoping the change in manager gives their team a boost and the opportunity to be competitive in their two away games this week.
