Arsenal face another difficult away test next weekend at St James’ Park, but Newcastle United will be without Fabian Schär.

The defender has been ruled out after picking up a head injury in their Champions League match against Barcelona. He said on 19 September, “Unfortunately, I am gonna miss a few games but hope to be back soon.”

Eddie Howe’s side will also be missing Jacob Ramsey with a foot problem, while new signing Yoane Wissa is a doubt as he waits to make his debut following a knee issue.

Anthony Gordon will, however, return from suspension.

Mikel Arteta’s squad continues to deal with problems of their own.

Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are sidelined with knee injuries, Martin Ødegaard is a doubt with a shoulder problem and Piero Hincapié is still being assessed.

Noni Madueke faces scans on a knee injury sustained against Manchester City and seems certain to miss out on the trip to St. James’s Park, while Ben White, William Saliba, Cristian Nørgaard and Bukayo Saka are only just back from injury.
