Jakub Kiwior joins Porto

Jakub Kiwior has left Arsenal for Porto in a deal that could eventually rise to €27 million, making the Poland international one of the most expensive defenders in Portuguese football history.

The move has been finalised as a loan with an obligation to buy.

Arsenal will receive €2 million upfront, with Porto committed to paying a further €17 million, while performance-related add-ons could push the total close to €27 million.

A sell-on clause ensures Arsenal will benefit financially should Porto cash in on the player in the future.

Kiwior had reportedly been intent on the switch since July, driven by the prospect of regular starts and belief in Porto’s project under Francesco Farioli.

He is expected to slot directly into the starting line-up alongside fellow Pole Jan Bednarek, with Farioli identifying him as a crucial upgrade to his defence.

A versatile left-footed centre-back who can also operate at full-back, Kiwior leaves Arsenal after two and a half years. He provided depth across the back line and earned recognition for several strong displays, most memorably his performance at the Bernabéu against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The timing of the transfer was tied directly to Arsenal’s acquisition of Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen, with the Ecuadorian defender seen as a natural upgrade.
