Viktor Gyokeres won the Gerd Muller Trophy and finished 15th in the Ballon d’Or voting on Monday night, after a strong year for the 27-year-old striker.

On Monday night, Viktor Gyokeres was revealed as the winner of the Gerd Muller Trophy for 2024/25, previously known as the “Striker of the Year” or “Best Striker Award”.
The award has been running since 2021, when Robert Lewandowski won it after scoring 69 goals. Since then, no one had broken the 60 mark until Gyokeres hit 63 goals for club and country last season.
Other winners include Lewandowski again in 2022, Erling Haaland in 2023, and a joint win between Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe in 2024.

As well as winning the Gerd Muller Trophy, Gyokeres also finished 15th in the Ballon d’Or standings, with 2025 being the first time he’d ever been nominated for the award.
Arsenal’s Declan Rice received the second nomination of his career, and he finished 27th in the final rankings.

Speaking after receiving the Gerd Muller Trophy, Gyokeres reflected on how the award compared to the feeling of scoring a goal.
“Yes it’s a difficult feeling, scoring is one thing in the moment, it’s a feeling that is difficult to describe because it’s so great,” Gyokeres said.
“But this means a lot and feels great of course in a different way, so yeah it’s amazing.”
