Chichester City FC have confirmed on social media that Billy Vigar sustained a serious injury in their match against Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, September 20th.

On Monday night, Chichester City added that Vigar had received a significant brain injury, and he’s currently in an induced coma in intensive care receiving treatment.

The statement added: “It is too early to say what the outcome will be and even if things go well, there will be a long road to recovery.”

Arsenal also shared a message on social media, writing: “Wishing you a speedy recovery, Billy.

“Everyone at Arsenal sends love and support to Billy and his loved ones at this difficult time.”

Vigar had joined Arsenal aged 14, and he spent almost seven years in north London, including a couple of loan spells to Derby County and Eastbourne Borough.

There were plenty of good performances along the way, including a heartwarming moment where Vigar returned from a long-term injury to score an injury-time equaliser in his first game back for the u18s.

The 21-year-old eventually ended up leaving Arsenal last year, joining Hastings United on a free transfer in July 2024. After a year in Hastings, he moved to Chichester in August.

Vigar’s social media pages remain full of pictures of him wearing Arsenal shirts, with his Gunners spell clearly a proud period in his young career.

The hope now is that he’ll be well again and back playing football in the future, but in the meantime we’re all sending our best wishes to the player’s family.
