Mark Chapman and David Ornstein believe Arsenal may have made the signing of the summer with Martin Zubimendi, despite plenty of high-profile deals in the current window.

The 2025 summer transfer window has been a busy one, with plenty of big-money players changing hands.
Arsenal alone have made six first-team signings, as have Manchester City, and that doesn’t even put them at the top of the list, with Chelsea making eight and Sunderland confirming 11 so far.
Four of the big-six clubs have spent big on strikers, with Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres, Chelsea signing Joao Pedro, Manchester United signing Benjamin Sesko, and Liverpool attempting to bring in both Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak – though only Ekitike is confirmed so far.
Yet David Ornstein and Mark Chapman have told The Sports Agents podcast that they believe the current signing of the summer is not a forward, but an Arsenal midfielder.

“The one that they had already lined up, that [Andrea] Berta helped push over the line, that Edu and [Jason] Ayto had worked on was Zubimendi, who I think could be one of the best signings in the Premier League this summer,” Ornstein said. “Absolutely magnificent.
“This is a top player for club and country, we know Liverpool tried to sign him last summer and that speaks volumes because of the quality of Liverpool’s recruitment department.”
“I think that’s the signing of the transfer window so far,” Chapman responded. “[With] the money and how they’ve done it.”

Zubimendi has certainly starred for Arsenal in pre-season so far, and Gunners fans will be grateful he helped Gyokeres get off the mark by assisting the Swede’s first goal against Athletic Club on Saturday.
The midfielder was named Arsenal’s Player of the Match, and he seems to have universal backing among supporters ahead of the new campaign.
Of course, it’s another thing entirely to do it in the competitive fixtures. But this is a player with plenty of European experience with Real Sociedad and Spain. It doesn’t look like he’ll struggle to adapt.
