Werder Bremen are now the favourites to sign Karl Hein from Arsenal, readying a bid for the goalkeeper’s permanent transfer.

Ryan Taylor reports for the Mirror that Werder Bremen are readying a permanent approach to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein this summer.
Taylor writes that Werder Bremen are now strong favourites for Hein, stealing in ahead of Levante.
Levante had preferred a loan move for the goalkeeper, but Arsenal want a sale. With Eintracht Frankfurt signing Werder Bremen’s first-choice goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, Hein is a potential replacement.

The report adds that Arsenal’s Per Mertesacker has played a role in facilitating a potential transfer, given his contacts at Werder Bremen.
The Gunners have been looking for between £3m and £5m for the goalkeeper, whose contract reportedly expires in 2026.
For the time being, Hein remains in training with Arsenal, taking part in Wednesday’s open training session at the Emirates Stadium.

Hein missed the Asia tour of Singapore and Hong Kong due to a thumb injury, but he’s since returned to fitness.
Yet with Arsenal having David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga, with young Tommy Setford as a third-choice option, the goalkeeper appears surplus to requirements and remains absent from recent matchday squads.
