First-team Arsenal forward agrees new contract

Leandro Trossard has reportedly agreed a new contract with Arsenal, perhaps indicating the end of the club’s summer pursuit of a left-wing signing.

James McNicholas reported for The Athletic on Tuesday night that Leandro Trossard has agreed a new contract at Arsenal, giving him a significant pay rise.

To clarify, Trossard’s deal won’t be extended beyond its existing expiration date in 2027. It’s just the financial terms of that deal being altered.

Arsenal were reportedly keen to bring the winger’s deal in line with his key role in the squad, and they’ve now done so. McNicholas adds that there are no significant developments regarding Trossard potentially leaving the club.

Assuming Trossard stays, as you’d expect after signing a new contract, Arsenal’s pursuit of a left winger is surely at an end.

With Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli now joined by Noni Madueke on the left, and Reiss Nelson also still at the club, it would be a big surprise to see the Gunners making another signing without sales. As it stands, only Nelson seems to be in contention for a summer exit.

Unless there’s a significant late bid for Martinelli, it looks like that’s it for Arsenal’s chances of signing a winger this summer, and perhaps for Arsenal’s chances of making any further signings.

Trossard made more appearances than any other player in the Arsenal squad last season, albeit that many of them were as a substitute. He featured in every Premier League game, every Champions League game, and the sole FA Cup game of 2024/25.

The only two matches the former Brighton & Hove Albion player missed were the first two rounds of the League Cup. Even then, he only sat out of the first of the two through suspension.

The 30-year-old racked up 10 goals and 10 assists across all of those appearances.

Following a minor injury setback in pre-season, Trossard was named on the bench against Manchester United on Sunday, marking the first Premier League match he hasn’t played in since September 2023. With his new deal done, he’ll surely be back on the pitch soon enough.
