Real Madrid are still yet to receive an approach from Arsenal for Rodrygo, who hasn’t indicated a desire to leave, but that could change with a late bid.
Guillem Balague reports that Manchester City’s pursuit of Rodrygo is over, with the club deciding to keep Savio instead. Real Madrid also doubt that Rodrygo would accept a late offer from Newcastle United.
But though that sounds like good news for Arsenal, there’s still a long way to go for any potential Gunners move to bear fruit.
For a start, Real Madrid sources insist Arsenal haven’t made an approach, and the club haven’t received any offers for the winger at this stage.
Real are currently asking for as much as €100m (£86.4m), though this figure could come down to around €60-70m (£51.9-60.5m) towards the end of the window. At this stage, nobody expects him to leave.
Guillermo Rai reports for The Athletic that sources close to Rodrygo have suggested they believe new signing Franco Mastantuono could be set to take his place in the team on the right wing.
Up until now, Rodrygo has wanted to stay in Madrid. But with the potential to lose his place to an 18-year-old, the situation could change if an interesting formal offer arrives guaranteeing him a leading role in the final weeks of the window.
Real Madrid kick off their La Liga campaign against Osasuna on Tuesday night, and it will be interesting to see whether head coach Xabi Alonso picks Rodrygo for his team.
David Ornstein confirmed at the weekend that Arsenal would like to sign a winger this summer if they can, but only after departures. Ornstein added that he’s unaware of any developments taking place with Rodrygo, though he confirmed the Gunners have looked into it in the past.
Reports over the last month or so have strongly suggested that both Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso are open to selling Rodrygo, but they’re still waiting on bids to come in.
