Rangers have joined Sevilla in the race for Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein, according to a report.
Dominik Schneider reports for FussballTransfers that Rangers have entered the race to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein this summer, with Sevilla FC also in the mix.
It’s not clear whether Rangers want a loan or a permanent transfer, but given it’s believed Hein’s contract expires in 2026, a loan would be unlikely unless he agreed an extension first.
Hein would have been out of contract with Arsenal in 2024, but he signed a new deal on the condition the club would loan him out in 2024/25. He spent the season with Real Valladolid playing consistently in La Liga, but with the club suffering relegation he now needs to look elsewhere.
Saikat Chatterjee had previously reported for CaughtOffside that Sevilla were after Hein, with the La Liga club holding talks with the goalkeeper to present their sporting project to him.
Hein was reportedly impressed by the presentation, and it was suggested he would be seen as a serious candidate to compete with Orjan Nyland for starts.
Yet a few weeks have gone by without any real progress on that front, and with Hein continuing to train with Arsenal in pre-season.
Hein missed the Asia tour of Singapore and Hong Kong due to a thumb injury, and there were suggestions his absence could also have had something to do with his uncertain future.
But the 23-year-old was back in training this week, so he’s fit and available to Mikel Arteta again now. Or indeed to secure a move away.
